Scooter-ing in Patong!

Hey there!

Have you seen my previous post on Beach-ing in Patong, Phuket? This is the continuation of that post. I'm trying to come up with an epic trilogy where it'll consist of "Beach-ing in Patong, Scooter-ing in Patong and Scooter-ing in Karon". All the pictures in this post was from my first trip to Phuket. Yes, I was bald, slimmer and stones lighter back then.

Navigating your way through Patong on a scooter is very easy. I've been to Phuket twice and scooter is my favourite mode of transportation here. I'm getting used to Patong and Karon that I don't need a navigation system. Seriously, it's worth a try. 

I have to be frank, I've never rode a scooter before. I was so hyped when I tried it out. It was shaky at first. After a few rounds of warm up, I'm like a stallion on steroid on a scooter haha! Once you've got your scooter, make a few rounds and turns to warm yourself up. Oh! Steph met a super cute and chubby baby.

So, how do you get a scooter? Rental services are everywhere in Phuket. You can even rent a car! There are various sizes of scooters to choose from and the price ranges from 8 to 15 USD or 30-50 MYR or 300 - 450 THB per day. I would recommend you to rent it from your hotel. You are also required to hand over your passport as a deposit. You might feel insecure about this. So check out my post on Travel Safe to learn more on how to keep yourself safe while travelling. 

Next step is to get a phone and internet line. I recommend AIS. They have various packages for travellers where you'll get unlimited internet access at a very affordable price. It is also convenient to reload your phone's credit as you can get AIS's prepaid card in every 7 Eleven. Trust me, it'll come in handy. :)

During our first trip to Patong, we stayed at Sea Sun Sand Resort & Spa. The resort is EPIC. Convenient, luxurious, relaxing and clean! Swimming pools are everywhere.

 

We spent most of our time Island hopping and beach-ing instead of going around shopping. However, we did manage to drop by to a few places. Jungceylon was one of the places we went. It is a mall located probably 15 minutes scooter ride from our hotel. There are lots of shops here. Take a break from beach-ing and visit Jungceylon! There's a supermarket, restaurants and plenty of sight seeing can be done.

If you're a night life enthusiast and a party goer, there's a place famously known as Bangla Road or Soi Bangla. You'll find yourself surrounded with clubs and bars. Pirates bar, Moulin Rouge bar and many more! Strip shows are common here and also known as AGO-GO. You'll be offered by tons of ladies inviting you to drink at their bar or clubs. 

In this case, always stay safe and make sure you have your belonging kept with you at all times. Also, there are a lots of scammers. Be sure to avoid falling into their trap especially in an AGO-GO bar. Other than that, you're in for a big ride pal :)

We also went to Banzaan Fresh Market. I remembered googling "Places to visit in Patong" and Banzaan came on. So we ended waking up early in the morning and headed to Banzaan on our awesome scooter. If you're lucky, you'll get to see monks dropping by to each stall in the market to pray for them. Just so you know, monks in Thailand are highly respected. 

What's to see in the market? Sorry we got too consumed by various vibrant and fresh vegetables, fruits as well as flowers. So we totally forgot to take pictures which we should have. Heh.

Oh oh oh, street food! It is a must. You gotta' give it a try at least once. They're cheap and delicious!

Guide to Blue Tongue Skink

Yo! How's it going on for you?

I've been tied up with things lately but I managed to keep up with blogging once a week. You'll be seeing more this week that's for sure. Well, if you haven't already know, I'm an animal lover. That includes reptiles (exotic animals). I've posted a few guides on Bearded Dragon and Sulcata Tortoise. If you haven't check it out, please do. This is my third guide on reptiles keeping and still running. 

Just so you know, the reptiles I chose to make a guides on are highly recommended for beginner or amateur reptile keepers/breeders. 

The blue tongued skinks are some of the largest members of the skink family also commonly known as the blue tongued lizards. But why the name? That is because of the prominent characteristic, the large blue tongue that is used as bluff warning to potential enemies. Fear not the snake like body and blue tongue because they can barely put a scratch on you as they are harmless and poisonous. Blue tongued skinks are commonly bred in captivity and sold as house pets.

There are various species and subspecies for the blue tongue skinks and they can be kept using these guidelines.

The first thing to do in choosing your blue tongue skink is to observe the blue tongue skink's appearance, toe nails and health. You do not want to get a dying blue tongue skink as your first pet that's for sure. Secondly, make sure you choose the right seller by checking their company's background and customers' testimonial. Third, make sure you're ready.

A blue tongue skink has a life span of 15-20 years if well taken care of. They can grow up to 24 inches in length. They will consistently reward and surprise their keepers with their friendly and curious personalities. Also, they are very curious, which is a mark of intelligence.

Having an enclosure with the right environment for your blue tongued skink is essential. You can always use any resources possible to lower your expenditure on the enclosure but I always recommend Exo Terra. Below are the list of items needed to build a descent enclosure or as I like to call it Home for you blue tongued skink. 

1. Glass Aquarium (40-120 gallons) depending on the size of your bearded dragon. The bigger they get, the more space they need and they'll definitely be much happier :)
2. A heating and UVB/UVA bulb. Lightings should be turned on 8-12 hours a day. Do make sure you have a hotter side and an end with a cooler side so your skink could switch spots to regulate their temperature.
3. Substrate (floor bedding) such as paper, artificial grass mat, wood chips and more. 
4. Rocks/Stumps/Hides for them to hangout on while basking. They love having plenty of open space for them to run around. They might climb over stumps and rocks but make sure it is not too high so they won't fall. They are not agile climbers so no need for polystyrene walls, unlike bearded dragons. 
5. Water and Food Bowl.  Blue tongued skinks are not good swimmers, water bowls should be shallow so they can exit with ease.

Enclosure/Housing

Worry not about feeding them, nothing complicated. Blue tongued skinks are hardy lizards and will thrive just about any diet. To have a more active and healthier skink, a balanced diet is required. 

• Blue tongued skinks are omnivores
• 50% green, 40% meat for protein, 10% fruits
• Green vegetables such as Choy Sum and Sawi (Mustard greens)
• Canned super premium dog/cat food (strictly without bones), mealworms and superworms
• Fruits such as papayas, strawberries, carrots (I recommend slicing it into smaller pieces)

I use Exo Terra's Multi Vitamin / Calcium +D3 / Liquid Calcium

Do not forget to add vitamin/calcium supplement and Vitamin D3 into their food. Uneaten food should be removed once the skink is done eating.

If you wanna handle/play with your blue tongue skink, make it 20 minutes or less per session. You can play with it several times each day. Do make sure that you're holding your blue tongued skink close to the ground, sofa or bed just in case you accidentally drop the lizard. 

Do not handle your blue tongued skink by its tail and be sure to fully support your skink's body to help it feel secure. They love being scratched on the head and chin.

We're on Instagram! (Project 365)

Yo!

I know it's a little too late for me to start "Instagram-ing" but I did. Haha! Like seriously. 

I'm gonna do my first project 365 where I'll be taking one photo daily and upload it on Instagram. 365 days and 365 pictures to be exact. Still, I'm gonna post random pictures whenever I feel like it. So FOLLOW ME!

I've also inserted an Instagram widget on the right bar. 

Oh, yesterday was my birthday! Thank you so much for the awesome wishes peeps! Also, google made my day by putting this greeting into my browser for a day. Google, you are uber awesome!

Well this is just a short post to notify you that I've joined Instagram and will be doing my project 365. I'll be posting some travel posts probably tomorrow or the day after. Alrighty then!

Anniversary in Kasih Sayang Resort like Stars!

Sup peeps!

You don't need to be a millionaire to throw a good anniversary for your partner. All you need is RM5000. Kiddingggg joke joke haha!

Jokes aside, proper planning and time is all you need. We've been together for 6 years now and I guess it is time to do something we don't usually do. Forget about fine dining in an expensive restaurant, candle light dinner (eating candles) or giving presents.

So, we've decided to celebrate our anniversary in a local resort known as Kasih Sayang Resort. Normally, we travel to nearby countries. This year, we're looking for a place far away from the city.
Just being away from hectic work schedules, pollution and other negativity for a day is all we need.

"Kasih Sayang" is a Malay word defined as love. It would be a great theme for anyone who wants to celebrate their anniversary here. To those who are reading this using your mobile device, there's like 30 pictures all together in this post so I apologise if it might be laggy for you to load.

Kasih Sayang Resort is located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It is easy to navigate your own way there. All you need to do is make your way to Menggatal town and you'll see that there is a road by the name "Kokol".

From Kota Kinabalu International Airport, it is approximately 25KM to Menggatal town. You then need to drive uphill for about 11.5KM. You'll eventually come across Kokol Haven Resort on your way up. Keep going uphill until you find Kasih Sayang Resort.

Kasih Sayang Resort is surrounded with mother nature's tropical forest. Standing at 2400 feet above sea level, Kasih Sayang offers you fresh and cool breeze so you can rejuvenate you body, mind and soul. The temperature here is between 18°C to 23°C.

Kota Kinabalu's city can be seen clearly from up here. Besides that, the view of the sea, sun and mountain will make you feel that you are in heaven. It was on a bustling Saturday noon, packed and ready to go.

The Gong where you whack to announce your arrival

The sun was blazing hot but the cold air soothes my skin nicely. If you think the first few pictures were lovely, wait till you see what they did to our room! EPICNESS. I felt like a friggin' VIP. Seriously, like a friggin' star! I've never had roses' petals dazzled all over my bed, my tub, or even on the floor and it smells utterly aromatic.

Still think this is nice enough? Wait, I've got better ones. There was a nicely decorated coffee table for two on the balcony. Mix it up with the view and nature's sound, DOPE-NESS. Plus, we have complimentary coffees, tea bags and mineral water. There are robes for us too!

The resort's restaurant is amazing! I could grab a cup of coffee and literally sit there for hours just dazing at the scenery. Breakfast set was good too. Oh, there is a rabbit pen right under the balcony and is viewable. Like, how close can you get to nature right.. Heh!

Here's what we had for our dinner and night out.. I had uhmm, I think it was sliced lamb with rice and Stephenie had mushroom chicken chop.
